Animoto

Animoto is not a bad application and could well have uses for our work (eg for livening up training presentations) It is very simple to use.

Twitter gets talked about a lot, probably by twits, but frankly I can't see what need it fills. I don't have an overwhelming compulsion to know what my friends are doing right now, or to talk to them via text, email or msn. Conversely, I wouldn't want to bore them rigid with what I am doing (ie looking at twitter). Twitter has cornered the market for banality and made it its own.

This week I was meant to have a look at Omnidrive, a file storage site, but it was on the blink so I was advised to have a look at Boxnet. Boxnet and similar sites are much used by small businesses and the like for backing up their computer data at a fraction of what it used to cost to have it done locally. The "share drive ' aspect of the service is good too, especially if you are wanting to move large documents from person to person quickly and without going via email. There may be niche situations which might warrant using this system for work, but by and large it would not be suitable for anything internal. Also our security prompts spring into action every time we go near it, so that has got to be telling us something. I did not set up an account because of security promtpts and because when I read the agreement, it made it clear that the owners of the site could unilaterally change the terms of the agreement at anytime without notice. Given that they do seem to charge for the service and would want a credit card, I thought caution was the prudent course.

Scrapblog is not all that easy to use but if you had a need for it I am sure it would get easier.

Zamzar

Zamzar is could be a useful tool. It might suffer from a lack of security, but if we keep that in mind it would no doubt have its uses.
